In California: Once a rarity among California flocks, the Red-lored Parrot population has steadily increased to a sizable and stable number.

Young parrots who are approaching breeding age will "play nest" in preparation for the time to choose a mate. They will go through all the motions of preparing and caring for a nest site without actually laying eggs and raising young. They are becoming well prepared for their adult lives. |
